DIAMOND IMPREGNATED CORE BITS
Impregnated bits present a metallic layer, impregnated of diamonds
on its cutting face. Fine diamonds are mixed with a metallic powder,
called matrix, which is then subject to thermal treatment assuring
the metallurgic bond of the matrix on the metal part of the bit.

Standard profile for thin wall bits (B/D/T2 Series). For
very hard and fractured formation. High RPM is required. |
Suitable profile for very hard and fractured formation.
The rounded profile has reinforced cutting edges. High RPM

Standard profile bits with thicker walls (T6/K/DCDMA/BS/Wire-Line).
Very good rate of penetration in very hard and compact formations. |
Recommended profile for non-homogeneus formation, such
as conglomerates, gravels, chalk or phosphate with cherts. |
DIAMOND SURFACE SET CORE BITS
Although not as versatile as impregnated bits, the surface set
bit has specific applications in soft to medium hard formation.
The surface set bit, as its name implies, is manufactured with diamonds
individually set on the matrix. The mold is then subject to a thermal
treatment assuring the metallurgic bond of the matrix on the metal
part of the bit.

This profile is the most frequently used. The radius is
slightly bigger than the half wall thickness of the bit. |
This profile gives good rates of penetration, but is not
appropriate in fractured formations. It is normally used with
a wire-line core barrel. |
This profile is a good alternative to the rounded profile,
because it gives excellent penetration rates. Furthermore,
it is more resistant than the stepped profile in fractured
formations. |
